Halloween + Oktoberfest = FIRKENSTEIN

What’s not to love with Halloween and one of the best beer fests in the world, Oktoberfest. When you mash them together with thirty of Socal’s best breweries, it’s bound to be one hell of festival!!

Changes from previous years:

  • Moved from the Packinghouse to Center Street Promenade (near Windsor Brown’s and Anaheim Ice Rink. – More parking, shade, seats, and room to stretch out.
  • The event is no longer “cask only” – it’s cask preferred, but all breweries need to bring something unique to the event, unless it’s a straight-up Oktoberfest beer.
  • Food Trucks! We’ll have some fun ones.
  • Costume contest with prizes!

Beer and Nachofest!

2019 food is all about NACHOS because NACHOS are the perfect food delivery system! These will all be served inside of Firkfest from $5-8. Photos are for preview purposes only and may sizes may differ.

Win a Magnum of Bottle Logic Red Eye November!

From four-time Firkfest supporting food vender The Iron Press Anaheim:

#SudsOfLove

Beer + Charity… Count us in! We here at the Iron Press in Anaheim have been so fortunate to get our hands on one of the ULTRA rare and highly sought after magnum (That means, “Gargantuan!”) bottles of Bottle Logic’s coveted “Red Eye November”. Because of how lucky we’ve been feeling, we’ve decided to pass it on with a little extra positive juju added in for good measure!

From January 23rd until February 20th, with the purchase of every pint of House Lager, Bottle Logic 714 Blonde, and Stone Delicious IPA – customers will receive a raffle ticket entering them into the raffle of our prized “Red Eye November” magnum bottle! That’s right!… We’re raffling that bad boy off to one of you!

What makes this deal even sweeter for us here at The Iron Press Anaheim is that a portion of the proceeds from this epic month-long event will be going to CHOC Hospital. This hospital and the children in it have a special place in our hearts, so we are over-the-moon to be able to give back to them!

It will kick-off on January 23rd (starting at 5:00PM) at the J. Wakefield Brewing Tap Takeover that we’ll be hosting at our little craft beer bar in the Packing House. This event is not one you want to miss! We’re calling on all our fellow craft brew nerds to come on out to this super special event. Nowhere else in California can you drink J. Wakefield suds on tap, as they do not distribute out here on the West Coast.

PLUS, we will have some SURPRISE kegs we’ve been hiding from our homies at Bottle Logic! We feel like this event of rarities is just what we need to start this legendary month of craft beer and community coming together! An official winner will be drawn by random on February 20th!

Here’s what we’ll have on tap for the J. Wakefield Brewing event:

El Jefe Hefeweizen, 5.5% ABV
A traditional German Hefeweizen in its core, but with the addition of fresh coconut flakes for a taste of South Florida and it’s beautiful surrounding beaches.

Miami Madness Berliner Weisse, 7%ABV
Our world famous Florida Weisse is brewed with Guava, Mango, and Passionfruit and has been rated #1 Best Berliner and #2 Best Berliner on BeerAdvocate.com & RateBeer.com.

Even More Nuts Imperial Stout, 14% ABV
Specially brewed in collaboration with Evil Twin Brewing, this full bodied rich stout is loaded with tons of Macadamia, Pecan and Hazelnuts.

Atomik Apple Imperial Berliner Weisse, 7% ABV
Another great collaboration beer, brewed with RAR Brewing infused with fresh Hidden Rose Apples.

What about Barb Imperial Sour Ale, 7% ABV
Complex and tart with Strawberries & Raspberries added.

All I do is Wynnwood New England DIPA, 10.5% ABV
The specialties keep on coming with this delicious beer brewed in collaboration with Untitled Art featuring Citra & Hallertau Blanc hops and infused with Gewurztraminer grapes. All I do is Wyn, wyn, wyn, no matter what.

2nd Breakfast Imperial Stout, 10.5% ABV
A richly sweet stout brewed with copious amounts of Almonds, Cinnamon and Vanilla.

PB and Gains Imperial Stout, 13% ABV
J. Wakefield’s twist on the Fluffer Nutter bar. PB&Gainz is an Imperial Stout brewed in collaboration with RAR. This specialty features loads of Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Vanilla.

Also, coming up next for us:
Tuesday, February 20th at 5:00 P.M. we’ll be hosting our annual “My Boozy Valentine” event. This is where we stack our taps with hard-to-find and vintage heavy hitter craft beers! So, come celebrate love or commiserate about love with US, your favorite Beer Cupids!

// The Iron Press Anaheim is located in the Anaheim Packing House (where Firkfest is) at 400 S. Anaheim Blvd, Anaheim.

Early bird tickets to Firkfest are still available here!

Eat Some Tiki Food Porn at Firkfest 2017

Adya – Fresh Indian Flavors is chef-owned  by the talented Shachi and specializes in Bombay-style street food. One of my favorite pairings in the Packing House is her goat cheese naan and Far Out IPA from Bootleggers. With $4 beers from 4-8pm, happy hour here is a must! A four-time Firkfest supporter, this year chef Shachi going crazy tropical with pineapple-glazed chicken vindaloo and watermellon chaat, which vaguely translates to tropical spiced kebabs and watermelon nachos. Feast your eyes:

Watermelon Chaat from Adya (vegan)

Pineapple Chicken Vindaloo from Adya, pairs stellar with IPA

The Iron Press is also a four-time Firkfest supporter, and it’s no surprise by their huge lineup of revolving craft beers on tap. With two locations in OC (Costa Mesa at SoCo and in the Packinghouse), they pair beer with waffles, tots, and other fun fare. Their Tuesday tap-takeovers are always a crazy fun time, so check them out! This year they’re going tropical with Tiki Nachos, complete with pulled pork, bbq, and asian slaw. (smaller versions available at fest)

Sort of like the Matterhorn with pulled pork, tangy bbq sauce, and poke-like asian slaw, Iron Press / Hatch collab

Like all hidden Tiki gems, HATCH is sort of hard to find, but once you’re there, you want to order ALL THE THINGS. Specializing in tropical bites, Tiki cocktails and craft beer, it’s no wonder we sought them out to provide grub for a bunch of tiki beer heads! HATCH is bringing their specialty, the Rum Braised Pork Sliders. Tasting somewhat like okonomiyaki in a bun, you’ll want to toss a couple of these ‘down the hatch’, so to speak.

Rum Braised Pork Sliders, supertropical! HATCH style!

Salt & Ash is executive chef Cody Stort’s home in Placentia. You may recognize the gruff pork worshiper from the Fullerton brunch scene, but I know him as a crazed beer dinner mastermind. I happened to mention the words “spam musubi” to him and let him run wild. He hit me back with Cajun-Rubbed Pork Belly Musubi with Thai Glazed Salad. Seriously. Beer fest food done right.

Cajun-cured pork belly, waiting the musubi treatment!

Food is extra but is priced similarly to their respective businesses. Keep in mind a food purchase supports the OC Brewer’s Guild, which helps make beer better in OC! None of this suits your fancy? Empty your glass and take a stroll through the Packinghouse. Just don’t carry beer outside of the fest, and you’ll be great!

Only a few Firkfest tickets are left! Grab yours quick!

What Exactly is a “Tiki Beer Fest”???

One thing is for sure, Firkfest doesn’t like being the same festival every year. We’ve done a chili cook off, a picnic on the park, and this year we’re getting groovy with some tropical vibes. On top of delicious fresh real ale, breweries will add tropical-note hops, tropical fruit, nuts, and possibly rum chips!

Tropical-style casks aren’t something new at the fest, however. These refreshing beers have always played a part. Here’s some of our favorite past-casks that made their one-off debut!
